How long is the EMT course?

The EMT course is 10 weeks long which follows the DOT National Curriculum and includes 120 hours of instruction.

The course consists of classroom instruction and practical skill labs, as well as clinical time either riding along with the Fire Department or working in the hospital emergency room.

Classes are Monday and Wednesday nights 5:30-10:00 P.M., and some Saturdays 10:00 A.M. -5:00 P.M.

What is the cost of the course?

Tuition $850.00
Tuition includes
  • EMT course
  • Textbook
  • Course lab fees
  • Course handouts
  • Equipment and supplies
  • Healthcare Provider CPR certification
  • Notarized applications for the State
BEMS Certification fees
  • $160 = Resident fee
  • $210 = Non-resident fee (considered non-resident if you have lived outside of Utah within the last 5 years. You will also be required to complete finger-printing for application.)
  • Note: The BEMS certification fee is for testing and application processing done by the State of Utah. The fee is not included in your tuition, and needs to be a separate check or money order made out to BEMS (they don't accept cash or credit card). This fee is due at your registration appointment which is held the Saturday prior to class beginning.
  • The State also requires you to provide documentation of having a TB test within the last year, you will need to bring this information to your orientation if you have it.  This is a simple test which we can administer the first night of class for a cost of $10 if you have not had one within a year.

How long will my EMT certification be good for?

The State EMT certification is valid for a period of 4 years.

During that time you will be required to maintain your certification by accumulating continuing medical education credits.

Once your 4 year period is up you may recertify your EMT for another 4 years by taking the State written recertification test.

What equipment will I need?

Most all of the equipment you will utilize during class is provided by the Academy.

You will be required to obtain a stethoscope and blood pressure cuff for your personal use during class as well as during your clinical time.
These items will be available for purchase at the Academy or you can buy them on your own.

How old do I have to be?

The State requires you to be at least 17 years old prior to taking the EMT course.  You must also turn 18 within 120 days of the end of the course; the State will then hold your certification card until your eighteenth birthday.
